The Thanksgiving that Our Tent Trailer Tried To Kill Us

Once again, we went to Anza Borrego with my family for Thanksgiving. And once again, we were sick! Austin and I went with what we thought were just minor colds, but I soon felt like death warmed over. Apparently Austin is a lot stronger than me, cuz other than looking rather pitiful, you couldn't tell he was sick based on how much fun he was having. Thankfully we had lots to be thankful for and still had a wonderful trip! I love Anza Borrego!

Both kids were obsessed with this ice cream toy my mom bought. Austin kept licking it, which, now that I think about it, was prolly why everyone caught our cold!

Our camp is one big sand box & Austin had so much fun digging and pushing a truck around in it every day!

And for the first time in several years, we did some off-roading. We braved a cold trip to the Calcite Mines.

The kids eating lunch in the back of Papa's car, trying to keep out of the wind. It was so cold!

Austin had so much fun riding in Scott & Robin's car with cousins!

We took a ride to the "Pumpkin Patch". Aptly named for the pumpkin shaped rock formations.

Gotta love some good rock hopping, toddler style!

As for the title of the post? In past years, we mooched off stayed with my parents in their massive motorhome. And the first year we had Austin, Ryan & Susan generously lent us their trailer to stay in. We didn't think it would be considerate to try to squeeze our family of four into my parents' motorhome, so we decided to rent a tent trailer. Really we wanted a real trailer, but our Xterra isn't rated to pull one, so a tent trailer was a heckuva lot better than tent camping in freezing temperatures!

Unfortunately we got a lemon! Our door wouldn't close, our fridge never cooled but worst of all, they didn't give us a whole tank of propane. On the last night, our heater ran out of propane and started pumping fumes into the trailer. I was in my parents' motorhome playing cards with my mom, when Brian rushed in with McKenna. She woke up either cold or because of the fumes and started crying and woke Brian up. After dropping of McKenna, Brian went back for Austin and we quickly set up camp in my parents' motorhome. So scary! We are obviously thankful McKenna saved the day! That could have been so so bad. Not sure we'll every rent a tent trailer again!
